Karlstejn Castle was founded in 1348 by Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV. and therefore has an immense historical significance. Karlstejn became a place for safekeeping of the royal treasures and crown jewels. After 1480 the castle was adapted to the late Gothic style and in the last quarter of the 16th centuries to Renaissance style.
